At Dover Christ Church Academy, our Key Stage 3 homework strategy is purposefully designed to foster disciplined study habits and academic resilience across Years 7, 8, and 9. We recognise that consistent home learning is a vital component in moving knowledge from short-term memory to long-term mastery. By centering our assignments on retrieval practice—such as Knowledge Organiser consolidation and weekly quizzes—we ensure that pupils build a robust foundation of subject knowledge that supports their progression through the curriculum.
To provide clarity and support for both students and parents, we adhere to the following:
Consistency: Most assignments are set via Google Classroom, providing a central hub for instructions, "How to Log On" guides, and submission deadlines.
Predictability: Deadlines remain consistent each week, allowing students to plan their time effectively around extracurricular interests and family life.
Structured Core Learning: Core subjects follow a fixed schedule, including weekly Reading Plus for English, Sparx Maths cycles (Wednesday to Wednesday), and Science retrieval tasks.
Wider Curriculum Engagement: Subjects such as History, Geography, and Languages provide targeted activities—including Waysground questions and Google Form skills checks—to ensure a well-rounded academic experience.
While the timetable provides a reliable framework, subject teachers may occasionally set additional tasks to further support specific classroom learning objectives as required.
English focuses on weekly Reading Plus and spellings.
Maths utilises the Sparx platform with a set Wednesday-to-Wednesday cycle.
Science involves Knowledge Organiser consolidation set on Mondays to prepare for a quiz the following week.
In the wider curriculum, students complete weekly activities for History and Languages, as well as specific Geography and DT Google Forms tailored to their year group’s current topics.
